Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university required
7 years or more successful head coaching experience
Administrative Licensure with emphasis in the administration and supervision of athletics/student activity preferred, or ability to acquire supervisor licensure upon hiring.
Demonstrated skill in written and oral communication.
Evidence of a successful college athletic recruitment plan
Demonstrated long-range planning skills.
Ability to establish positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community.
Exhibits acceptable standards of ethics, moral character and sound judgment.

General Responsibilities:
The athletic director has the responsibility and is accountable for the quality of the athletic and student activity programs. The major objective of this position is to ensure the highest possible quality of educational opportunities for the student athlete and student activity participant. The administrator shall organize and maintain safe athletic and student activity programs consistent with school
Recommends candidates to the Superintendent or designee, with input from the high school and middle school principal, for appointment to coaching positions.
Guides head varsity coaches in recommending candidates for all coaching positions below the head varsity level.
Holds mandatory preseason meetings with all coaches to review ODE guidelines and expectations, board policies, and district protocol standards.
Holds pre-season meetings with all head coaches to determine goals for the season.
Holds individual post-season meetings with each head coach soon after the season ends.
Evaluates each head varsity coach soon after the season ends.

Assists head varsity coaches, as needed, in the evaluation of all other coaching personnel within the sport.
Supervises the vertical progression/programming retention (from middle school through high school) within each sport.
Develops methods of obtaining regular constructive feedback from student athletes, cheerleaders, and other members of the student body.
Provides leadership to booster groups and parent groups associated with the athletic and student activities programs.
Oversees all aspects of athletic department financial affairs within the district (e.g. budget, approval of expenditures, in-service requests, ticket sales, etc.)
Oversees the schedules of all athletic events at the high school and middle school.
Oversees the selection and employs all home event workers at the high school and middle school.
Makes necessary arrangements to provide security personnel for athletic and student activity programs at the high school and middle school.
Monitors all phases of the athletic program regarding safety of athletes.
Is the school district’s representative to all outside groups using the Bedford City Schools athletic facilities.
Represents the school district in conferences and other meetings pertaining to the athletic program.
Recruits to fill openings in the coaching ranks.
Works with the supervisor of buildings and grounds to coordinate proper maintenance of all athletic facilities.
Plans revisions of the Athletic Department Handbook and advises the superintendent on the need to revise and add policies to the district Policy Handbook.
Advises the superintendent and principals in decision making and long-range planning relative to athletics and student activity programs.
Coordinates information to parents regarding the required athletic physical examinations and required forms to participate in athletics and student activities.
Delegates responsibility to the faculty manager, event supervisor, and other appropriate personnel for proper organization and supervision of athletic and student activity events.
Oversees matters related to athletic eligibility.
Promotes positive public relations and communications.
Requires and supervises proper articulation of the middle school and high school athletic programs by the head varsity coaches.
Assists building principals in scheduling facility usage for athletics and student activities.
Assists the high school principal and middle school principal with the supervision of athletic events.
Arranges all athletic trips with the supervisor of transportation for high school and middle schools.

Coordinates awards programs and other types of recognition programs with the assistance of coaches and advisors.
Assists k-8 athletic coordinator and k-8 intramural manager in carrying out their responsibilities.

Assists the principal in planning and implementing goals and objectives for the student activity accounts at the middle school and high school.
Works with the treasurer to supervise athletics and student activity accounts.
Attends and assists in the supervision of student activities.
Participates as a member of the Athletic Advisory Council.
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
