Minimum Qualifications:

Special education license or equivalent experience
Minimum of (5) five years of experience working directly in the field of Special Education
Masters’ degree in education, education administration or related field
Valid Administrator’s license from the State of Ohio
Valid Ohio Driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Superintendent’s license
Experience working with diverse populations

Primary Job Function:

The Reynoldsburg City Schools Director of Special Education will provide leadership and expertise in the development and implementation of special programs that include Special Education, Related service providers, school nurses and school psychologists. The Special Education Director will continually work for improved educational outcomes for SWD and be a champion for equity and diversity agent who advocates for the needs of all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. Leadership

Responsible for modeling the district’s philosophy for inclusive education
Serves as thought-leader to enhance new innovative ways to provide services and support to all special education students
Uses design thinking principles to create innovative service models for SPED children and families by seeking models that place RCS in the center of state innovation conversations
Engages internal and external stakeholders in robust conversations that lead to additional resources flowing to special needs students in the district
Direct all operations and activities involved in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the Special Education Department
Facilitate the investigation of current research regarding trends and best practices to support appropriate recommendations for student success through rigorous, innovative and technological programming
Responsible for providing and directs ongoing professional development to staff
Develop and implement professional learning for staff, faculty and administrators concerning special education programs, services, instruction, curriculum and related principles, theories, standards, requirements, practices, procedures and techniques
Take responsibility for and engage staff in conversations about levels of internal employee engagement; enlist those impacted in designing solutions that lead to higher levels of engagement
Responsible for researching and developing new programs that whole child support and align with RCS mission and vision.
Responsible for the oversight of Special Education programs PK-12
Responsible for managing the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plans in all assigned areas
Responsible for determining appropriate programming for each area of responsibility including but not limited to:
Special Education
Related service providers
School nurses
School Psychologists
Responsible for developing appropriate referral processes and procedures for each area of responsibility.
Responsible for ensuring that all related services programming, policies and procedures are in compliance with Federal, State and local regulations.
Responsible for accurate and timely data reporting to EMIS
Responsible for supporting RCS’ District Special Education services. This includes but is not limited to:
Staff support
Student support
Responsible for collecting and reviewing data to determine program effectiveness. Making recommendations to improve programs and services.
Analyzing current state. What’s working, what is not
Developing a plan for improved services
Monitor new options piloted across the district
Responsible for overseeing home instruction including appropriate documentation
Responsible for overseeing mental health supports for WDS students
Responsible for attending meetings, conferences and professional development opportunities to remain apprised of latest developments and innovations in the field

Communication and Support

Responsible for serving as liaison with the Ohio Department of Education’s Office for Exceptional Children regarding policies and procedures related to Students with
Responsible for staying up to date and knowledgeable regarding all community resources and communicating those to the appropriate entities.
Responsible for supporting and coordinating non-public school services and child find activities
Responsible for collaborating with interdisciplinary team (building administrators, department staff, District leadership, stakeholders, etc.) to determine appropriate services, placement and supports
Responsible for providing crisis management support in all areas of special education
Responsible for completing state and federal reports in a timely and accurately
Responsible for supporting and coordinating all district secondary transition services for students with disabilities, works closely with Coordinator of Partnerships & CTE to ensure equitable access to programs and services

Budget and Finance

Responsible for formulating IDEA-B budget requests, revisions, expenditure reports
Responsible for working in coordination with Treasurer’s office to complete Catastrophic and Excess Cost reports
