OASSA Names 2020-2021 Assistant Principal of the Year

 Columbus, Ohio – September 24, 2020 –

Congratulations are in order for Mr. Ryan Bandiera on being named the OASSA Assistant Principal of the year.  Ryan has been the assistant principal at Chardon High School since 2016.  Prior to his time at Chardon, he was a teacher in the Twinsburg City School District.

A passionate leader, Mr. Bandiera has sought to always look for ways to improve himself, the school building he is working in, and those with which he comes in contact.  Mr. Douglas Murray, the principal at Chardon High School, describes him as the “first to step in when someone needs help” and one who meets the social emotional needs of his students.  “He truly believes in all students.”

Staff members describe him as someone who “…will look beyond what’s best for himself, but rather what’s best for each individual person.”  His focus is on serving those he comes in contact with each and every day.

Mr. Bandiera’s most notable accomplishment might be the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) journey that Chardon has undertaken.  With a team of teachers, Mr. Bandiera helped lead the professional development needed to move a large high school to a successful adoption of UDL.  Under his leadership, UDL tenants are found throughout the building and students are being given opportunities to show their knowledge beyond traditional assessments.

OASSA is proud to have Mr. Bandiera represent Ohio as the Assistant Principal of the Year.
